A round of golf at Arrowtown is highly recommended if you’re in the area. It’s just outside the village of Arrowtown, and only 20 minutes from Queenstown. It’s a very interesting layout; the 18-hole, par-70 course offers a unique blend of challenging play and stunning landscapes.
We started our day with a breakfast in historic gold mining town of Arrowtown, which I recommend particularly if you haven’t visited this quaint village. Just a few minutes drive from the village, the clubhouse provides a welcoming atmosphere with spectacular views over the back nine and surrounding mountains. It has a restaurant open for breakfast and lunch, a Pro Shop offering equipment rentals, and a practice putting green. So you can eat at the course, but alas, no driving range to warm up.

This is a well-established course, built in 1911 and it’s known for its distinctive layout that meanders through narrow valleys, rocky outcrops, and undulating terrain. Complete with the brick ruins of one of the early settlers’ home and other historical farm equipment as part of the scenery.
The course doesn’t have traditional bunkers, instead offers you natural hazards like exposed rocks and rugged ground, requiring strategic shot-making and precision. The front nine offers relatively flatter fairways and stunning views of the foothills, while the back nine has more dramatic elevation changes and tighter corridors, with several holes winding through the rugged natural valley terrain.

This translates into plenty of outcrops to get some seriously crazy bounces! It’s all quite fair in the end, but helpful to play with someone who knows the course.
We played it on a beautiful Autumn day, with the trees changing colors, and crisp sunshine. The course has a very interesting and pleasing character to it. It’s not a plush championship course, with some brown in the fairways and rough edges, but it leaves you with a great feeling of playing something truly unique and artful.

The club website has a great course layout map and video of each hole. You have to click on the hole on the map to get the video to come up. Here’s the link: https://www.arrowtowngolf.co.nz/course.
Let’s include Arrowtown Golf Club in your New Zealand golf tour! It's quite close to other quality courses. The Millbrook Resort (with the Remarkables and Coronet courses), The Hills Golf Club are all within the city limits of the Arrowtown, and the renowned Jack’s Point course is just 30 minutes to the south.
