Flying Through the Forrest Above Queenstown

This is an exciting and exhilarating experience ziplining through the trees with spectacular views of Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu

The trip begins with the ascent to Bob's Peak on the gondola.  The ziplining starts a couple hundred metres from the gondola station, west toward the trees.

Ziptrek Ecotours does a great job getting everyone oriented and strapped into their gear. Obviously safety is a big priority and the staff there are well trained and very conscientious.  Part of their mission is to educate the public about sustainable practices and eco-friendly activities - it's nice to hear their enthusiasm.

Fitting out the gear for each person takes a few minutes.  But it's obviously an important step to have everyone in the gear that is the right size for their body and having it securely fastened.

We're assigned a guide that works with us on each zipline and also tells us about the ecology in the area and their philosophy of sustainability.

It's part hiking and part ziplining all the way down to the base of the gondola.  It's not a lot of physical exercise, but more mental stamina!  Our group had people between 30 and 75 years old, and we all managed to have fun and make it to the bottom!

Getting off at the end also takes some getting used to.  The ziplines slow you down at the end, so you can easily dismount on to the platform.

We had great weather and a really fun afternoon.  Everyone in the group enjoyed it, even though some had their doubts early on!
